![]() Nov. 12,2004 at 5 p.m. Nov.12: King County ballot count updateKing County Elections today counted 14,601 ballots, of which 10,704 were valid provisional ballots. This brings the total number of absentee ballots counted to 558,157. Election officials project an estimated 11,000 absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted. Of the 646,537 absentee ballots issued, 565,895, or 87.53 percent, have been returned. As ballots continue to trickle in through the mail, election staff work to check for valid postmarks, verify signatures, separate ballots from return and security envelopes, and prepare ballots for tabulation. Ballots counted through today include those received through November 10. Election results will be updated again on Monday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. Election officials will work through the weekend to prepare valid provisional ballots to be counted Monday. Voters who cast a provisional ballot may check the status of their ballot online at http://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/ballots/provisionalballot/ballotlookup.aspx. Provisional ballots are processed throughout the 15-day canvass of the Election. A mandatory machine recount will be issued by the Secretary of State if the difference between two candidates is less than ½ of one percent and less than 2000 votes.
