![]() Nov. 10,2004 Nov. 10 King County ballot count updateKing County Elections today counted 20,839 ballots, which includes 1,978 valid provisional ballots, bringing the total number of absentee ballots counted to 554,260. Election officials project an estimated 25,000 absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted. Of the 646,537 absentee ballots issued, 562,508, or 87 percent, have been returned. As ballots continue to trickle in through the mail, election staff work to check for valid postmarks, verify signatures, separate ballots from return and security envelopes, and prepare ballots for tabulation. Ballots counted through today include those received through November 9. The number of ballots received each day is available online at 10 a.m. the day following receipt at your.kingcounty.gov/elections/2004nov/ballotsreceived.htm . Election results will be updated again on Friday, Nov.12 and Monday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. Election officials will work through Veteran's Day tomorrow and over the weekend to verify valid provisional ballots. Voters who cast a provisional ballot may check the status of their ballot online. Provisional ballots are processed throughout the 15-day canvass of the Election. A mandatory machine recount will be issued by the Secretary of State if the difference between two candidates is less than ½ of one percent and less than 2000 votes.
