"We realize all eyes are on King County's absentee ballot count," said Dean Logan, director of King County Records, Elections and Licensing Services. "To meet the needs of candidates, the media and the public, we're working longer hours and reporting results more frequently. Though the process might seem slow, election staff has counted more absentee ballots the four days following the election than ever before." As ballots continue to come in through the mail, election staff work to check for valid postmarks, verify signatures, separate ballots from return and security envelopes, and prepare ballots for tabulation. Ballots counted through today include those received through November 3. The number of ballots received each day is available online at 10 a.m. the day following receipt at http://your.kingcounty.gov/elections/2004nov/ballotsreceived.htm. Additional absentee ballots will be processed and counted on Monday, Nov.8 and on Wednesday, Nov.10. Election officials caution the public from calling close races until all provisional ballots are counted. The number of provisional ballots cast will be announced at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8 and is expected to surpass the 17,081 provisional ballots cast in the 2000 General Election. Voters who cast a provisional ballot may begin checking the status of their ballot online starting Monday, Nov. 8. Provisional ballots will be processed throughout the 15-day canvass of the Election.
