Voting 101: Roving RV tours county to educate first-time voters

Image of vote mobileKing County's satellite elections office, the Vote Mobile, is touring the county this week offering King County's record 129,000 new voters a lesson in voting. The colorful red, white, and blue roving Vote Mobile will also serve as a mail ballot drop-off location for absentee voters. To date, King County Elections has mailed a record 633,000 absentee ballots.

The League of Women Voters provided the 25-foot Recreational Vehicle to help educate the influx of new voters in King County.

King County Elections is using the Vote Mobile as an official Elections satellite station to provide convenient, official and secure locations for voters to return their absentee ballots.

In just six days beginning Wednesday, Oct.13, 2004, the Vote Mobile toured the county and registered more than 2,700 new voters. Starting today, the Vote Mobile will educate first-time voters about the election process in Washington State.

"We've broken all records in this election," said Dean Logan, director of Records, Elections and Licensing Services. "We've registered more new voters, we've mailed more absentee ballots, and expect a record turnout on November 2nd. The Vote Mobile allows us to serve all areas of King County."

The League of Women Voters donated the RV, or Vote Mobile, a trademark vehicle reminiscent of one they used 40 years ago to register voters here in King County.

The Vote Mobile is staffed with bi-partisan election board workers and the ballots are secured in a sealed ballot box and returned to the Elections office daily.
