BALLOT TITLE

PROPOSITION NO. 1

NORTH ISSAQUAH ANNEXATION

TO CITY OF ISSAQUAH

Shall the area of unincorporated King County contiguous to the City of Issaquah and commonly known as the North Issaquah Annexation Area, which is legally described in King County Ordinance No. 13628 and City of Issaquah Resolution No. 99-4, be annexed to and become part of the City of Issaquah and, upon annexation, be assessed and taxed on the same basis and at the same rate as property within the City of Issaquah to pay for the then outstanding indebtedness of the City?

Explanatory Statement

If Proposition No. 1 is approved by the voters, the area known as the North Issaquah Annexation Area, located in unincorporated King County contiguous to the City of Issaquah, would become part of the City of Issaquah.  All property within the annexation area would, upon annexation, be assessed and taxed on the same basis and at the same rate as property within the City of Issaquah is assessed and taxed to pay for the then outstanding indebtedness of the City.

Proposition No. 1 will be authorized if a majority of at least three-fifths of all votes cast are in favor of the proposition, and the number of persons voting on the proposition is not less than forty percent of the total number of votes cast in the area at the last preceding general election.  However, state law provides that the Issaquah City Council may adopt a resolution accepting the annexation, without the assumption of indebtedness, if the combined ballot proposition is approved by a simple majority of the voters voting on the proposition.
