Validation Requirements

Special Election - May 20, 2003

BALLOT MEASURE VALIDATION CATEGORIES
Certain ballot measures require more than a simple majority of affirmative votes to pass. In order for some measures to pass, certain additional requirements must be met as follows:

A) Simple Majority Requires affirmative vote of more than 50% to pass.

B) Super Majority Requires at least three fifths (60%) majority vote to pass.

C) Super Majority plus minimum vote Requires the same as “b” above, plus must have a minimum number of affirmative votes based on percentage of persons voting in a previous election. Does not have a minimum voting, or turn-out, requirement except that needed to meet the minimum affirmative vote. This category includes most excess levy measures.

D) Super Majority plus minimum turnout and minimum affirmative vote Bond issues, in addition to requiring at least 60% affirmative vote, also require that the number of voters voting on the issue must equal 40% of the voters who voted in that jurisdiction in the last general election. The minimum yes vote is 60% of the turnout requirement.
