Democrat
Why would I want to give up representing you in the Legislature to serve you
on the County Council? It is true that state policy drives local decisions. But,
local government most directly affects peoples’ lives. The decisions facing the
County are great:
• TAXPAYER ACCOUNTABILITY
In Olympia I voted against great sounding items
because I wanted to hold the line.
• LOCATING THE NEW SEWAGE TREATMENT FACILITY
There must be sufficient opportunity for each of us to participate in
the decision making process.
• CLEANING UP AND CONSERVING THE WATER
We must preserve open space and sensitive areas as we manage growth.
• FINDING TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS
We have to make progress in finding new transit options. At the least,
we can improve the efficiency of what King County controls.
I’ve spent the last three years as your 32nd District State
Representative. In a deadlocked legislature, I wrote and passed strong
legislation for education, long-term care and low-income housing. I was named
“Legislator of the Year” by Home Care Association, and “ Champion of Quality
Care” by the Washington Health Care Association. Now, I’d like to work where we
need the most help – the County Council.
