King County Parks: Container invite

You’re invited to the unveiling of Parks’camping cargo container before the 24-foot structure is delivered to its permanent address at Tolt MacDonald Park & Campground. The container will be parked at street level for public viewing in front of King Street Center on Second Avenue South in downtown Seattle, and open for tours of the eco-friendly interior design.

The innovative container project started as a competition with a call-out seeking architectural designs for re-using a surplus cargo container for overnight camping that integrated the principles of conservation and sustainability. The Seattle firm, Hybrid Architecture, developed the winning design based on an adaptable floor plan with multi-purpose functionality.

See the finished project up close, and learn about some of the green materials used, including a soy-based spray foam insulation. On hand to answer questions about the container and design process are key project staff: Sujata Goel, King County Parks, Program Manager; Bill Schwartz, King County Parks Small CIP Contract Manager; Jason Anglin, King County Parks Carpenter; and Patti Southard, Solid Waste Division, Green Tools Program Manager.

Upgrade your overnight camping experience and give the cargo container a try! Put your name on the waiting list to be notified when the cargo container is available for reservation, by calling 206-205-5434 or email regional.scheduling@kingcounty.gov.

Special thanks to the following project sponsors: Matson, Skanska, and Pemiere Spray Foam.
