Status updates
Fairwood Incorporation: Residents within the Fairwood PAA have formed the "Fairwood Municipal Initiative" and are pursuing incorporation of the area. A ballot measure will appear on the November 2009 ballot asking residents if they want to incorporate as a non-charter code city with a council-manager form of government. Residents of the area had the opportunity to vote to incorporate during the September 19, 2006 election. By a relatively narrow margin, the 2006 proposed incorporation measure was defeated.
Fairwood Annexation: Another group of Fairwood residents have formed "Choose Renton", to endorse annexation of the Fairwood Potential Annexation Area (PAA) into the city of Renton. Residents submitted a petition for annexation to the city of Renton in the fall of 2008. Petition signatures were certified by King County Elections in December 2008. The Renton City Council accepted the petition January 2009. The city of Renton will need to forward a Notice of Intent to annex to the BRB to begin the BRB review process.
Benson Hill Communities: On November 6, 2007, citizens living within the boundaries of the proposed Benson Hill Communities annexation area voted to join the City of Renton. The City of Renton annexed this community on March 1, 2008.
