King County's goal is to enrich the lives of our residents. Access to high quality educational opportunities is essential for every county resident while a healthy economy where workers can earn a family wage is necessary to improve the quality of life of King County residents.

Though King County government does not have a direct role in providing or improving education, it is committed to ensuring that children are healthy and have the support necessary to succeed in school. The community indicators below reflect how prepared children are before entering the school system and their success once they are enrolled in school as well as the state of King County's workforce and its business climate.

The performance measures demonstrate King County government's role in promoting children's health and early development, which improves children's future academic achievement. Additional performance measures demonstrate the role of King County government in training workers in the skills required by industries that offer the best opportunities for employment and career advancement; and retaining, expanding, and recruiting businesses within industry clusters that offer the greatest potential for growth.
