February 2011
Dear Neighbor,
2011 has been a busy year at the Council already!
In this e-newsletter, I’ve shared how I will continue to serve you on the King County Council in 2011. This includes a recent trip I took to the “other Washington” to gain national support for programs that have a local impact. As always, I look forward to continuing another year of service to District 5 and the residents of South King County.
Sincerely,

Julia Patterson, King County Councilmember - District 5 |

2011 at the Council
This year I will once again serve as the Chair of the Council’s Budget & Fiscal Management Committee. This great privilege also comes with much responsibility as the budget is the single most important process through which the Council sets policy and oversees delivery of the services you need and expect. I’m also honored to continue my service on the Sound Transit Board, the King County Flood Control District and several additional Council committees.

King County Board of Health
On January 20, I led my final meeting as Chair of the King County Board of Health. After five years in this leadership role I am proud of everything the Board has accomplished, including our menu labeling and trans fat legislation, tobacco-related policies, and implementation of the County’s first health care reform initiative. Moving forward, I will continue to be an active member of the Board, while King County Councilmember Joe McDermott will serve as the new Chair.

Council Travels to Washington DC
On January 25, my Council colleagues and I traveled to Washington D.C. and met with members of our federal delegation to discuss issues important to King County. This annual trip is a prime opportunity for the County to remain competitive in the federal funding process. Among the many topics on this year’s federal agenda are flood control, public safety, and transportation and transit services. The overall response from our Senate and Congressional leaders was very positive and I look forward to seeing many of our discussions materialize as we work closely with our federal government in the future.

Metro Transit Service Changes
A few times each year, Metro Transit makes some minor scheduling changes to reduce costs, preserve bus service, and operate more efficiently for riders. Be ready for any changes that might occur in your service area beginning February 5.
