October 2010

Dear Neighbor,

On October 1st, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of the new RapidRide A Line service. This new bus service offers South King County riders a unique transit alterative combining the convenience of light rail with the affordability of a bus system.

With a total of 51 stations along the Pacific Highway S/International Blvd corridor, A Line riders have convenient service and connection options. The A line offers fast, reliable, and frequent service all day long for commuters, students, and those who live around the line. For example, people previously had to wait up to 25 minutes on this corridor for a bus. Now during the busiest times on weekdays, RapidRide will carry riders up and down Pacific Highway and International Boulevard every 10 minutes -- that’s more than double the service riders receive now from the 174 Route.

Creating transit alternatives and better connecting South King County residents is one of my highest priorities, which is why I am excited to celebrate this milestone with you all.

In this e-newsletter I will share some of the unique amenities of the RapidRide service as well as the A Line route map and schedule.

I look forward to seeing you soon on the A Line,

How RapidRide is Different

  • Service at least every 10 minutes during the busiest morning and evening travel hours

  • Full service seven days a week

  • RapidRide buses have low floors and three doors, so you can get on and off quickly

  • RapidRide buses send signals to traffic lights, so green lights stay green longer or red lights switch to green faster

  • Electronic real-time “Next Bus” signs tell you when your next bus is coming

  • ORCA card readers let you pre-pay before boarding

  • Larger bus shelters that offer better weather protection and lights for enhanced safety
