June 2009
Dear Neighbor,
Last week I hosted two Town Hall meetings which covered two very different, yet relevant topics for King County residents: property taxes and transportation.
Both meetings were a success and I appreciate all of the thoughtful comments and questions from those who were in attendance.
This e-newsletter provides you with a brief re-cap of each meeting, including resources for common property tax questions, and an opportunity for you to comment on the future of transportation in our region.
If you have further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Julia

Property Tax 101 Town Hall Meeting a Success!
On June 2nd, more than 100 King County residents came to Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines to learn more about their property taxes.
At the meeting we heard from King County Chief Deputy Assessor Rich Medved, Director of the Residential Appraisal Division of the Assessor’s office Debra Prins, and Barbara Alsheikh, Supervisor for the King County Tax Advisor office.
Those who came to the meeting said they walked away feeling informed; with a better understanding of how the assessment process works and where to turn for answers to their questions.

Your Input is Needed! Transportation 2040 – The Future of Transportation in Puget Sound
Families and businesses throughout the region have felt the impact of the traffic congestion that grows worse every day. As Chair of the Puget Sound Regional Council’s (PSRC) Transportation Policy Board, I work hard to make sure we are addressing this issue while planning for the mobility needs of our growing region.
On June 4th, I joined Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke and representatives from the Puget Sound Regional Council at the Kent Senior Center for a public meeting to discuss our region’s long-range transportation plan: Transportation 2040.
Transportation 2040 is a guide for moving our region, while making our communities, environment and economy stronger as we grow. The plan has six different alternatives under consideration, each including a strategy to identify sufficient funding sources and invest in transportation improvements.
PSRC is currently seeking public comment on these different alternatives. Please take a moment to review and provide your feedback, and thank you in advance for helping to shape the future of transportation in Puget Sound! |
